| Description | Only about 5 per cent of the people of the total workforce in India are trained or skilled. There is a significant gap which needs to be addressed with utmost priority. Building human capital is one of the crucial components of sustainable development, the one to which companies can contribute through skill development initiatives. Corporates can help in bridging this gap by focusing on capacity building and providing technical expertise under their CSR strategy, as they create demand for a skilled workforce. The chapter discusses the skill development initiatives of two CSR foundations in India, with sustainable development and stakeholder theory as guiding frameworks. The study seeks to provide insights into the challenges of skill development projects and concludes by suggesting steps that can be undertaken for a qualitatively superior outcome of CSR activities.
