| Description | This chapter reviews the writings of some investigators who have worked with persons who have been sexually abused as children and who have observed the long-lasting deleterious consequences of child abuse. Although many of these investigators have provided valuable information on the treatment of these children and adults, not include treatment in this review. Seymour Halleck said that the “Evaluation of many children and adults who have been sexually victimized suggests that they experience disabilities as a result of the sexual assault. Susan Sherkow in her paper uses a psychoanalytic approach to the evaluation of sexual abuse in little girls. She addresses the issues of sexual abuse by looking at the pathogenic effects that appear later in the intrapsychic dynamics of the developing ego of the little girls.
