| Description | Starch (900 g/day) and peanut oil (440 ml/day) supplements were given to groups of eight cows grazing 'Grasslands Ruanui' perennial ryegrass in two experiments during spring. The cows receiving starch produced milk containing higher percentages of solids-not-fat (P<0.05) and protein (P<0.01) in the first experiment. Protein percentage was also increased by starch (P<0.05) in the second experiment. The group fed peanut oil produced milk with a higher percentage of fat (P<0.01 in experiment 1 and P<0.05 in experiment 2) and a lower percentage of protein (P<0.01) in both experiments. |
