| Description | It may be observed from the detailed discussion (conceptual and experimental) in previous chapters that for the development of next-generation energy storage/conversion devices (battery, supercapacitor, and hydroelectric cell), new generation materials (electrodes and electrolytes) need to be developed. Because in any device, electrodes and electrolytes play an important role and are directly linked to the device performance. Although existing devices can fulfill the need of energy demand and are also being used in the broad application (from daily use electronic items to space vehicles). However, there exist some shortcomings that restrict the use. Different devices have different challenges and need to be resolved for boosting the energy-based economy globally. A healthy energy economy only can prevent further damage to the environment due to traditional sources of energy. Along with this, these traditional sources are limited; therefore, it becomes important to search for alternate sources of energy for fulfilling the need for energy globally. Therefore, the energy sector can gain momentum if challenges faced by different devices can be resolved. This chapter provides a detailed overview of challenges faced by different devices and their remedies. Although the road to production of next-generation energy storage devices is hard and extensive, the destination is ultimately approached. Figure 7.1 shows the four common challenges faced by different devices. Four important aspects are technical, test standards, economical, and need for smart devices.
