| Description | Unsolicited deposition of proteins and micro- and macro-organisms on wetted substrate surfaces causes a major concern in industrial, marine/aquatic facilities, food processing and health care sectors. In this context, different anti-biofouling (ABF) materials/coatings have been developed in recent years to counter the accumulation or to inactivate the microorganisms on the surface. In this chapter, the superior ABF phenomenon of cyclodextrin-threaded polymer coatings over polypropylene, polyethylene glycol, polyvinylidene fluoride, and polyester coatings and their potential applications in health care, water treatment/membrane separation, marine industries have been discussed. Besides this, the stimuli/light-responsive supramolecular anti-fouling coatings, which are noncovalently linked with -cyclodextrin derivatives, provide a favourable podium for the production of multifaceted surfaces, promising for biomedical and biotechnological applications.
