Description	In the 1950s there was a lack of possibilities for training in individual, psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy in Norway. In 1962, the author and a psychiatrist, Endre Ugelstad, who had cooperated for many years, started a training institute in an old flat in Oslo. Later, Per Mentzsen was included as administrator and teacher. The author describes the initial pioneer spirit, the inspiration given by influential American psychoanalysts and later the recognition by the Directorate of Health which led to financial support.
