Description	In the following chapter we will illustrate several practical examples of fairly tall buildings mostly reinforced concrete constructed in and around Bangalore (Figs. 11.1 through 11.11). The structure designs are prepared by Prasad Consultants, Bangalore for which the founder, CEO is Mr. H.N. Renuka Prasad. Mr. Prasad was author's master's student way back in the late 1980s in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Currently, the author keeps advising him regularly on issues which require special consideration of the IS codes. One such is IS 1893:2016 which has stringent provisions and specifications to be followed during structural design. The important problem here is that while following the architectural consideration it becomes difficult to satisfy IS 1893:2016 while doing earthquake resistant design. Only when some rudimentary concepts of structural dynamics are extended to interpret the IS 1893 is it possible to understand the ramifications of the code. Then with certain structural modifications keeping architectural constraints, it is possible to proceed further satisfying both the architect and IS 1893. With that in view, including such problems in this book has become relevant. We mention a few important issues: avoidance of floating columns, soft storeys, and torsional modes.
