| Description | This chapter reviews composites in which there are a matrix polymer and two dispersed phases, typically with micrometer and nanometer dimensions, respectively. In this review, they are termed hybrid composites because they combine typical composites with nanocomposites in the same material. The review classifies the filler combinations according to their chemistry, shape, and morphology in the composites. The chapter is not concerned with fillers having broad particle size distribution extending over the micrometer-nanometer range. Hybrid systems will have two distinct filler size distributions. Figure 2.1 shows a generalized schematic of a hybrid polymer composite consisting of two fillers; it should be noted that the fillers differ in size by a factor of ~1000 so that each filler will contribute different characteristics to the composite.
