| Description | It has long been the author's position that diversity is an intercultural dynamic process in the therapeutic relationship and in our wider understanding of the active, participative and co-created nature of the therapeutic task. In developing therapeutic relationships there can be an echoing back towards early patterns of contact and avoidance, to developmental strengths and injuries, involved in the complex processes of working with identity in intercultural relational therapeutic work. The complexity of situational factors in the here and now and the there and now are fundamental elements in examining the intercultural process of diversity. The exploration includes phenomenological, existential and dialogic elements arising in the intercultural relational dynamics of therapist and client, supervisor and supervisee and trainer and trainee. This is a dynamic relational process emergent from contact, requiring paying attention to contextual and situational factors of body-mind whilst exploring movements between interpsychic and intrapsychic awareness for both client and therapist. Body-mind exists as a vehicle for extant cultural meaning, forming and actioning mnemonics of what went before. Body-mindsets and habitual frames of perception, experiencing and understanding condition our engagement with self and other. Book Name: Intercultural Therapy |
