| Description | This chapter provides an analysis of biopower in relation to the hospital. It explores some history about the study of biology, and shows how this relates to the origins of modern clinical practice. The chapter describes few assemblages in the governmentality of the health system as a structural model for understanding the contemporary health system. It argues that the funding formula regime helps forge a therapeutic alliance between the clinical and population health discourses. The chapter considers the development of population health knowledges and public health practice within the biopolitics of that population expansion. The contemporary history of public health is often commenced at this time. The development of communicable disease control within the practice of public health brought it closer to the more clinically oriented parts of the medical profession. Early in the twentieth century, it began to take up a deeper engagement with curative medicine and hospitals. Book Name: Doing Health Policy in Australia |
