| Description | Head-up display (HUD) systems are electro-optical devices that present attitude, navigation, guidance, targeting, and other information into the pilot's forward field of regard through the aircraft windshield. The information viewed by the pilot is projected at optical infinity and is conformai with and overlays his real-world view. Thus, the pilot flying with a head-up display is able to keep his attention focused on the real-world view while simultaneously viewing and monitoring critical flight parameters and data during all phases of flight. A collimated HUD display, or a display projected at optical infinity, minimizes the need for the pilot to come into the cockpit and refocus his eyes to view conventional panel-mounted displays. Eliminating vision transitions minimizes reaction time, enhances safety, and contributes to reducing pilot workload. Book Name: Electro-Optical Displays |
