| Description | Interpersonal sensitivity has been defined in various ways by researchers, but whatever definition is used it must include the idea of differences in an individual's responsivity to, as well as the accurate perception and judgment of, the social environment. In this chapter, the definition of interpersonal sensitivity is perhaps more basic and more narrow than many of those submitted by other investigators. Interpersonal sensitivity is defined here as the ability to identify the basic emotions of happiness, sadness, anger, and fear at both high and low intensity levels in nonverbal behavior in general and in facial expressions and prosody in particular.
