| Description | The meta-analysis of this chapter is to summarize and synergize the results of a group of diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) studies that evaluate the performance of diagnostic tests of the same disease. One single study of a diagnostic test is usually limited due to the small sample size and restricted population. Therefore, meta-analysis is needed to combine common results and investigates the differences between DTA studies in order to give better conclusions of the performance of the diagnostic tests. This chapter focuses on the statistical analysis basics of the meta-analysis of diagnostic studies for evaluating and comparing the diagnostic accuracy of tests. The methods discussed in this chapter are based primarily on sensitivity and specificity, as most studies report only the sensitivity and specificity. Additionally, analysis based on the summary ROC curve will be discussed. Relevant R and Stata programming code for the methods discussed in this chapter will be given.
