Abstract	Le scénario de référence des Perspectives présume qu’en l’absence de toute nouvelle mesure des pouvoirs publics la croissance économique mondiale et la mondialisation suivront jusqu’en 2030 des tendances similaires à celles qui ont été observées ces dernières décennies. Cette proposition n’est qu’une simple hypothèse et ne doit pas être considérée comme une prévision : elle représente ce qui pourrait se produire en l’absence de nouvelles évolutions ou politiques majeures. Le présent chapitre explore certaines des incertitudes associées au scénario de référence, et examine comment les projections pourraient varier selon différentes hypothèses concernant le taux de croissance de la productivité et le rythme de la mondialisation. Ces variantes du scénario de référence montrent qu’une croissance à moyen terme plus forte amplifierait les impacts sur l’environnement, et que l’accroissement du commerce international et la modification des structures de production entraîneraient une hausse des besoins en énergie sur l’ensemble de la planète. Ces variantes illustrent à quel point les variations de certains déterminants clés peuvent modifier la nature de l’économie mondiale et les pressions qu’elle exerce sur l’environnement.
