Abstract	La production a légèrement augmenté au premier semestre 2002, l’amélioration des exportations nettes ayant plus que compensé la contraction persistante de la demande intérieure. La récession de l’investissement en matériel s’est aggravée et la consommation privée acontinué de se réduire. Le renforcement de la contribution extérieure à la croissance a tenu à une augmentation des exportations mais surtout à un net repli des importations en raison de la faiblesse de la demande intérieure. Les opérations de déstockage pourraient avoir atteint leur point le plus bas, mais la croissance demeure très faible et le chômage s’inscrit en hausse. La croissance devrait s’accélérer en 2003, tirée par le renforcement des exportations. L’amélioration de l’activité gagnant tous les secteurs en 2004, on prévoit que le PIB progressera de quelque 2½ pour cent, soit un taux supérieur à son potentiel. Le déficit total des administrations publiques dépassera probablement 3.7 pour cent du PIB en 2002 et restera supérieur à 3 pour cent en 2003. De nouvelles réformes des dépenses sont nécessaires pour réduire le déficit structurel de manière durable, et des mesures doivent être prises pour élever le sentier de croissance de l’économie, notamment en améliorant le fonctionnement du marché du travail et en rationalisant les transferts publics.
