Abstract	Los fundamentos del mercado mundial del azúcar son sin duda pesimistas para el inicio de las Perspectivas. Los precios mundiales han continuado con una tendencia a la baja en los últimos 12 meses, y con una menor volatilidad de los precios, ya que los mercados se ajustan a un tercer año consecutivo de un excedente mundial de azúcar (véase la Figura 6.1). Una mayor producción mundial se puede atribuir en gran parte a una recuperación en la producción en el mayor productor del mundo, Brasil, a pesar de que las cosechas fueron también grandes en la Unión Europea, Estados Unidos de América de América, México, India y China. Como resultado, los precios mundiales del azúcar sin refinar han caído 26% en los últimos 12 meses, y los precios del azúcar blanca 20%. Se espera que los precios del azúcar sigan disminuyendo durante el resto de 2012-2013 debido a la abundancia de suministros y el aumento en la cobertura de las reservas.1 La reposición de las existencias elevará la proporción existencias-uso a un nivel alto de seis años a principios de las Perspectivas, y señalará efectivamente el fin del periodo de bajas reservas, lo que ha sido una característica de los últimos cuatro años.
