Abstract	In this paper, the impact of distributed generation on the optimal location of measurement equipment to detect voltage sags in a power system is analyzed. An analytical method is used to formulate the optimization problem, which guarantees the coverage of the whole system. The application of genetic algorithms is proposed to solve the problem of optimal location of measurement equipment to detect voltage sags in a power system. The methodology is implemented by using genetic algorithms routines from the Matlab® Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search ToolboxTM. Several case studies are showed in IEEE-24 bus Reliability Test System (RTS) and in the IEEE 57-bus Test System.
