Abstract	In a network with mobile hosts, the mobility of hosts are usually simulated using mobility models. Random Waypoint (RWP) mobility model is one of the most widely used models in the evaluation of wireless communication protocols and optimization schemes. In this paper, a useful property, namely the inter-arrival time of hosts to a given area of a network which move under the influence of the RWP mobility model is evaluated. Despite the fact that the probability distribution of inter-arrival time has been well studied, this paper believed to be the first piece of work to derive the value of inter-arrival time analytically using geometric probability. We also provide two schemes to estimate its value. The correctness of our analysis and estimations is verified through simulations. We also propose a new geocast scheme, namely GeoFerry, which makes use our derived result to reduce the delay of packet delivery and improve the performance.
