Abstract	The paper presents a downlink beam selection scheme with feedback in CDMA/FDD systems. At the base station, multiple beams are formed in a sector. Orthogonal symbol sequences are used to distinguish each beam and are transmitted as common pilot channels. The mobile station selects the beam that achieves the maximum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). In the next slot, the base station transmits the data symbols by using the selected beam. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs better than transmit beamforming using the uplink signals under a large angular spread condition.
