| Abstract | The global warming has been recognized as a potential hazard in the 21st century and all the power plants are asked to be more clean and energy saving, which is still the toughest problem. On the other hand, people are more anxious about the quality and longer useful life and higher maneuverability of their cars. A so called "Intelligent Engine" must become a reality in the not-too-distant future. Progress in the technologies of the three major elements of the engine control: (1) Sensors and Actuators (2) ECU (3) Control strategies continues. The application of modern control theory offers the big advancements and it expands from engine itself to the engine/vehicle system. As for sensors, combustion pressure sensors may become one of the key sensors for directly defectomg the fundamental signal from the mechanical phenomena of the engine. Electronically controlled throttle valve actuators are becoming an essential component for an engine-transmission system to realize more sophisticated maneuverability. Based on these advanced components, engine control will become adaptive not only to the driving habits of the individual driver. This paper reviews future engine control concepts and discusses about the important possible technologies in engine control which will become in commercial use in this decade. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
