Abstract	The author describes the theoretical development of a prototype expert system designed for various multidisciplinary applications including the role of a diagnostic advisor. The emphasis is placed on the electric motor which based on observation is considered to be the most dynamic component in any modern industrial complex. A significant degree of multidisciplinary interaction revolves around the electric motor giving the motor a wide field of attributes. The concept associated with this idea attempts to demonstrate that the attributes are not solely based on classical issues but also on expert assigned attributes or abstractions that relate to its functionality, location, numerical presence, etc. Venn diagrams are used to express the overall concept while descriptions of the object-oriented paradigm and examples from similar systems are cited and evaluated as they relate to this study. The principle aim is to show that a knowledge base created by using dynamic parameters can become the master algorithm used to integrate all other discipline-specific expert systems during plant design and operations.
