Abstract	Recent developments in knowledge-based systems technology offer an excellent and effective approach to building management support systems for strategic management. We have developed a hyperknowledge support system for strategic management in the forest industry, and have tried it out in several strategic business units in a major corporation. The core of the system is an object-oriented expert system, which has been overlaid with a hyperknowledge support system. This turns out to be a useful construct, as we get a non-trivial level of knowledge representation and an attractive and easy-to-use support system. We tested the system with 30 managers and some early results show definite improvements in the quality of some key elements of the strategic management process. Our results show so far that hyperknowledge support systems promise to have a significant impact on strategic management.
