Abstract	The Information Sciences Experiment System (ISES) is conceived as a computer resource in space. Its tasks are to assist space-science experiments to develop and demonstrate information-processing concepts that eventually may be used onboard dedicated spacecraft and to provide an experiment base to develop information technology for use in space systems. The authors describe the computer and information science aspects of ISES and its development program. They discuss areas where useful computer and space science experiments may be synthesized. They consider where both space and information science experiments can be developed that will provide a basis for defining ISES. They then discuss the concept by which ISES can be included in the Space Station Freedom (SSF) or earth observing satellite (EOS) systems. They also discuss some organizational aspects of ISES, involving bringing teams together to define ISES and experiments it will conduct.
