| Abstract | In this work, a new approach to design an antenna aperture tuning circuit for mobile phone antennas is proposed. Currently in the industry, the design of such a tuning circuit is done by using antenna S-parameter measurements. This method gives limited insight into the antenna performance parameters, specifically radiation power, which is a key performance parameter for an antenna. This paper presents a new approach to design an antenna tuning circuit, which gives additional in-depth knowledge on the performance improvement of the tuned antenna system. The proposed method uses non-linear 3-Dimensional Electro-Magnetic simulations of a mobile phone antenna structure which is co-simulated with antenna tuning circuit elements to realise an antenna tuning system. The effect of antenna tuning elements on the antenna parameters can be visualized in addition to simulating the antenna radiation patterns and the Total Radiated Power (TRP). Measurement and simulation results, of a fabricated prototype antenna, are presented and a close relation is found. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
