| Abstract | It has been stated that if you have not interested a child by the 4/sup th/ or 5/sup th/ grade in science or mathematics, you have lost the opportunity (Prism, February 2001). Since engineering is mainly composed of science and mathematics, the industry has lost its potential entrants at a very early age. Based on this realization, the idea of the Sooner Elementary Engineering and Science (SEES) Club was formed. This program is an informal education program in that it is a voluntary, after-school learning experience that is open to all children, pre-kindergarten through 5/sup th/ grade. Hands-on, inquiry based experiments aimed at teaching 3 to 4 words or key concepts are presented each month. These words or concepts are in the physical sciences or mathematics areas. Curricula presented to date include the areas of chemistry, aeronautics, weather, environment, logic, electricity, circuits, and physics. During a meeting, the students are offered multiple stations where different yet related experiments can be performed in an active environment. The students leave each month with a summary of the topics taught in addition to a list of resources that their parents can obtain from local educational stores. Faculty and students from the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering and some parent volunteers from the individual schools staff the program. To date, the elementary schools' PTAs, the Norman School District Foundation, and the Oklahoma State Society of Professional Engineers have provided the funding for the program. In this paper, a brief description of the program and its specific curricula are presented. In addition, basic demographic data that has been gathered for the 2000-2001 academic year is discussed. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

NDLI is a conglomeration of freely available or institutionally contributed or donated or publisher managed contents. Almost all these contents are hosted and accessed from respective sources. The responsibility for authenticity, relevance, completeness, accuracy, reliability and suitability of these contents rests with the respective organization and NDLI has no responsibility or liability for these. Every effort is made to keep the NDLI portal up and running smoothly unless there are some unavoidable technical issues.
Ministry of Education, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), has sponsored and funded the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) project.
