| Abstract | Presents two approaches for designing controllers that dynamically regulate the rate of data flow into a network based on feedback state information. They result in controllers that are similar to ones that have been advocated for both end-to-end and hop-by-hop congestion control in high-speed networks. Many existing control protocols have been developed on growing available experience, using ad-hoc techniques that did not come as a result of a control-theoretical study. This is due to the high complexity of the controlled systems, that are typically decentralized, have non-linear dynamics, and may only use partial noisy delayed information. Some attempts have been mode in recent years to use control theory to design flow controllers with, however, no explicit objective functions to be minimized; moreover, the class of control policies in existing theoretical work is quite restricted. In this paper the authors formulate explicitly some cost criteria to be minimized, related to performance measures such as delays, throughputs and loss probabilities. Using a linearized model, the authors then view the design problem as an optimal control problem. The authors follow true approaches to model interfering traffic and other unknown data: the H/sup /spl infin// approach, and the LQG one; and determine for both cases the optimal controllers. Some simulation results complete the study. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
