| Abstract | The concept of the AC photovoltaic module-a photovoltaic module with an integral DC to AC inverter-was conceived 20 years ago at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but is only now reaching commercial realization. Advances in power electronics, integrated circuits, microprocessors and communications were needed before AC photovoltaic modules could become a reality. Advanced Energy Systems and Solarex (the largest US-owned PV manufacturer) are now bringing the first commercial AC PV module to market. This is a 240 Watt peak large-area (6'3'/spl times/3'8") PV module with an integral 240 Watt inverter (4 Amps, 60 V DC input to 120 V AC, 60 Hz, 2 A output). The AC Module concept has many advantages over central inverter systems-the main ones being a low minimum system size (and hence a low barrier to market entry) and the ability to site individual modules without concern for shading and orientation. We believe that the AC PV module will became a significant consumer product and will have wide application as part of the emerging distributed electric utility. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
