| Abstract | Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films with a Zr/Ti ratio of 52/48 were prepared by a sol-gel method on platinized Si, (0001) sapphire, and (100) MgO substrates. The evolution in crystallinity was studied in real time during annealing with an in-situ X-ray diffraction system using a Ruud-Barrett Position sensitive Scintillation Detector (R-B PSSD). Annealing rates of 50/spl deg/C min/sup -1/ and 100/spl deg/C min/sup -1/ were utilized to study the growth of an intermediate fluorite or pyrochlore phase and the perovskite phase. This provided evidence on the structure evolution during heat treatment. It is also proposed in this study that spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) be used to examine the microstructure evolution of PZT thin films during annealing. Changes in optical properties, i.e., the refractive index, as a function of temperature can be determined. Because the refractive index depends on the crystal phase, SE can serve as an indirect means of following the crystallization. The volume fraction of the crystalline phases, the film thickness, and the presence of the surface roughness can also be obtained from SE measurement. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
