| Abstract | Welcome to the (pre-workshop) proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Theory-Oriented Software Engineering (TOSE 2016), co-located with the 38th International Conference on Software Engineering in Austin, Texas, USA, on May 15th, 2016. Most academic disciplines are concerned with building theories to explain, predict and describe their core phenomena. Software Engineering suffers from a dirth of mature theories. The Theory-Oriented Software Engineering workshop therefore seeks to promote theory development in software engineering. It supports attempts to propose, synthesize, clarify and test theories of software engineering phenomena. TOSE especially promotes attempts to answer fundamental questions, integrate ideas from diverse sources and propose revolutionary, contrarian or ambitious new theories. |
