| Abstract | Welcome to GRAPHITE 2003. This is the first of an annual series of conferences, organised by two newly formed computer graphics associations ANZGRAPH (for Australia and New Zealand) and SEAGRAPH (for Southeast Asia). We trust this conference will bring the excitement and vibrancy of the annual SIGGRAPH conference to the region, with a host of new ideas, insights and technologies. The event was inspired by a delegation representing the ACM, ACM SIGGRAPH and EUROGRAPHICS, which visited to Australia, New Zealand and Singapore in March and April 2002. The visit was a delight and members of the delegation were bowled over by the warmth of the reception everywhere, and by the quality and breadth of activity related to computer graphics permeating the region. The discussions focused on two areas. Firstly how appropriate and useful it would be to establish professional groupings in the region so that international liaisons with those active in the field in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia could be channelled and facilitated. Secondly it was felt that an international event which brought more interaction between the regional and global communities would be a major benefit. The GRAPHITE series of conferences is the result of this thinking and brings together a spectrum of truly global research activity. These proceedings are the archival record of the papers program for the conference. We have been impressed by the breadth and quality of the work submitted. The 32 full papers and 19 sketches are drawn from research groups in 13 countries; ranging from Japan to the USA, with Europe well represented alongside the high quality regional contributions from research leaders in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. The geographical spread is matched by the spread of topics and applications, and we feel sure that there are topics of interest to anyone working in the field, with presentations to match. The submitted work is complemented by the three invited presentations and we are pleased to be able to include extended abstracts of these talks with the proceedings. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
