Abstract | The recent progress in computational machinery which opens unexpected and far reaching possibilities in applications puts new demands on certain branches of mathematics. In particular, it requires the development of formulas for solving problems which occur in applications. While in the classical mathematical approach the emphasis was put on the proof of the existence of a solution, in this new development we put an equal stress on the derivation of convenient formulas for representation of these solutions as well as on the question, "To what extent can we read various properties of the solution from the formula obtained; in particular, how do numerical data vary if some given parameter appearing in the solution changes?" Further, it is of importance to obtain unified methods, leading to procedures applicable to a great variety of problems.The situation thus created requires certain formulations of mathematical methods and tools in various mathematical fields. In the present lecture we shall discuss a new approach developed for solving boundary value problems in the theory of linear partial differential equations, which approach is also applicable in conformal mapping. In many respects this method seems to satisfy the demands indicated above.Since certain parts of computations can be repeated in very many instances, it seems advantageous to work out those procedures in which the computations can be divided into two parts: 1) computations which can be used in various problems and which can be carried out by big machines in special computational centers and stored once and for all; 2) those computations which have to be repeated in every particular case and which have to be carried out by smaller machines, for instance, ordinary punch-card machines or even hand computers. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
