Influence of multimedia in emerging social web systems

Content Provider ACM Digital Library
Author Jain, Ramesh
Abstract Even a casual look at most successful social systems on the Web shows that multimedia has played a key role in their success. The factors behind this are not really clear. Academic community has adopted multimedia oriented sites for procuring correct datasets for their experiments. Very little attention has been devoted to understanding how can emerging multimedia techniques play a key role in utilization of multimedia more effectively in society. There are clear applications of multimedia for building social sites for developing countries. In this talk, we will discuss how multimedia can contribute as a key technology in the next generation of social systems on the Web.
