Description | Artemis E. Fay debuted the Peach Springs Arizona Champion in 1883, later moving it to Flagstaff in 1884, where it evolved into the Arizona Daily Sun. George H. Tinker acquired the Champion after a fire ravaged Flagstaff in 1886. Clarkson M. Funston took over in 1891, renaming it the Coconino Sun, later the Coconino Weekly Sun. Attorney Jerome Edwin Jones merged it with the Flagstaff Democrat in 1896, forming the Skylight Kicker. Funston reclaimed it in 1898 as the Coconino Sun. Jones then launched the Flagstaff Gem. The Coconino Sun, central to Flagstaff's news, covered diverse topics, reflecting the town's growth and regional developments. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1897 of this newspaper. |
