Description | "The Chilkat Post, born from the Fort Seward News, served as a vital link for the military community stationed at Fort William H. Seward, later known as Chilkoot Barracks. Launched in 1921, this weekly publication provided insights into base activities, local events, and changes in personnel. Following a reader contest, it was renamed in February 1922 to honor the nearby Chilkat mountain range. However, the paper's name was short-lived, as the fort underwent a name change to Chilkoot Barracks in December 1922. Thus, The Chilkat Post became The Chilkoot Post on January 5, 1923, continuing its role until at least June 25, 1926." NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1922 of this newspaper. |
