Description | The Llano Colonist, a socialist newspaper, documented the New Llano Colony experiment in Louisiana from 1918 to 1937. Founded by Job Harriman, the colony aimed for self-sufficiency, hosting hundreds of residents and satellite colonies in Texas and New Mexico. The Vernon Parish Democrat initially covered colony affairs until the Llano Colonist's inception in 1921. Edited by Carl Gleeser, the Colonist mirrored its predecessor's format and socialist ethos. Both papers ceased in 1937, coinciding with the colony's abandonment. In 1947, former colonists briefly revived the Colonist in Los Angeles. Their efforts encapsulate a chapter in American socialist history. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1922 of this newspaper. |
