Description | The Randolph Journal, published in Winchester, Indiana, in 1862, emerged from the lineage of the Randolph County Journal. Owned initially by Clint D. Smith, it underwent several changes in ownership and name, reflecting the tumultuous times of the Civil War era. Benjamin F. Diggs, one of the editors, sold his share to George H. Bonebrake in July 1862. Bonebrake, along with Lon G. Dynes, reorganized the paper, shortening its title to the Randolph Journal. However, the title changed back to the Winchester Journal later that same year. Ownership transitions continued, ultimately leading to the stability brought by Amos C. Beeson in 1870 when he renamed it the Winchester Journal. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1862 of this newspaper. |
