Description | The Richmond Palladium, established in 1831, underwent name changes reflecting political shifts. By 1854-1855, it operated under the name Richmond Indiana Palladium. In 1875, David P. Holloway and Benjamin W. Davis took ownership, aligning with the Republican Party and criticizing the Know Nothing Party's pro-slavery stance. Rudolph G. Leeds acquired it in 1906, renaming the weekly edition the Farm Palladium. The merger with the Richmond Daily Palladium and the Richmond Sun-Telegram led to the formation of the Richmond Palladium and Sun-Telegram in 1907. With Leeds's progressive stance, it supported Theodore Roosevelt and opposed the Ku Klux Klan. The paper evolved into the Palladium-Item and Sun-Telegram in 1939, eventually becoming the Palladium Item. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1855 of this newspaper. |
