Description | The Canton Dakota Farmers’ Leader, commencing in August 1890, catered to the agricultural community in Lincoln and Minnehaha counties, South Dakota, particularly associated with the Farmers Alliance movement. Originating as the Canton / Dakota Farmers’ Advocate earlier that year, it provided local and national news, agricultural insights, ads, and serialized fiction. The Farmers’ Alliance aimed to empower farmers economically and politically, countering challenges post-Civil War. Nearly 400 progressive farmers founded the Dakota Farmers’ Leader, initially distributed by the Farmers’ Publishing Company. Arthur Linn, a seasoned newspaperman, helmed the publication for two decades until his passing in 1912, continuing its legacy of serving the farming community. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1896 of this newspaper. |
