Description | The Worthington Western Advance, launched in 1872 in Nobles County, Minnesota, by Miller, Humiston & Company, served as the first publication from the National Colony settlement. Initially, it focused on local community representation, politics, Protestant values, and agriculture. Renamed the Worthington Advance in 1874, it became the official paper of Nobles County and Worthington in 1888. Despite early struggles with grasshopper plagues, it thrived, expanding to eight columns. Ownership changed hands over the years, with notable figures like journalist Robert McCune and editor Carl S. Eastwood leading its evolution into the Worthington Daily Advance. The paper ceased in 1908, merging with the Worthington Herald to form the Worthington Advance-Herald. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1894 of this newspaper. |
