Abstract | Counterfeiting of currency has become a menace to governments in recent times. It varies from the low quality scanner and printer based counterfeits to the high quality ones which are funded by hostile states. Due to its harmful effect on the economy, detecting counterfeit currency be- comes a task of national importance. During investigation it also becomes essential to know the source of the counterfeit. Existing approaches for counterfeit detection work successfully only on low quality counterfeits. In the case of high quality counterfeits, generally manual examination is needed. Furthermore no automatic method exists for the more complex problem of finding the source. In this work we make two prominent contributions. First, we propose an efficient automatic framework to detect counterfeit currency notes. Second, we also develop a classifica- tion framework to link genuine notes to their source printing press. Our results indicate that the proposed classifiers work with a high degree of accuracy. We plan to extend this approach to link high quality Fake Indian Currency Notes to their unauthorized sources. |
