Description | Drawing for a two panel comic strip showing Li'l Abner and Daisy Mae Yokum on the left, before Marryin' Sam, during the annual Sadie Hawkins Day race in Dogpatch. Joanie Phoanie appears dazed, with flies or bees buzzing around her head; finding herself "stuck with the Brat!!", she demands her manager "Get rid of him!!", as she heads for a waiting limousine with her guitar over her shoulder. In this series, Joanie Phoanie, a satire of singer Joan Baez, adopts Li'l Abner and Daisy Mae's son, Honest Abe. Daisy Mae plots with Joanie Phoanie to capture Li'l Abner during the race so their son will have one of his parents. Al Capp invented Sadie Hawkins Day in 1937, in which women chase men and force them to marry. Includes figure studies on the back. |
