Description | Editorial cartoon shows Soviet soldiers fleeing under a heavy barrage of shells. From a foxhole, an officer angrily waves a newspaper at them reading: "U.S. is divided and confused. U.N. falling apart." In May 1951, United Nations forces repelled a Communist offensive in Korea and by the end of the month had cleared South Korea of Communist troops. Although the Soviet Union was not an actual combattant during the Korean War, the United States assumed that it was directing the Communist troops. Herblock pokes fun at the continued Soviet claims that the United Nations military effort was failing. |
