Description | Two-panel cartoon strip shows Dilly O' Th' Valley (guardian of the Valley of the Shmoon) suggesting to a group of dumbfounded Republicans (Richard Nixon, Everett Dirksen, Ronald Reagan, and Nelson Rockefeller) that they nominate him for president. When they point out that nobody in Washington has ever heard of him and he is not "nationally celebrated," Little Abner assures them that "He will be--soon's folks sees his solushuns!!" In later strips it is revealed that his solution to all problems relies on the Shmoos, lovable creatures who supply all the world's wants. Al Capp first introduced the Shmoos in 1948. Their unlimited supply of unselfishness ultimately destroyed society, and they had to be confined to the Valley of the Shmoon. |
