Description | Two Sunday cartoon strips. Five-panel strip of Jungle Jim in which Jim's faithful Hindu assistant Kolu is reunited with Jim after he escapes from a war canoe commanded by the villainous Hawk Bruder. Eight-panel strip of Flash Gordon in which Gordon, who has been rendered partly invisible (except for his hands), rescues his friend Khan, Captain of the Hawkmen. Flash then seizes the witch queen Azura and drags her away screaming. Jungle Jim and Flash Gordon were two popular and influential strips initiated by Alex Raymond for King Features Syndicate in 1934 to compete with the strips Tarzan and Buck Rogers. Both strips were notable for the romantic realism of the drawing. King Features issued the two strips as a package to ensure they would fill an entire Sunday comics page. |
