Description | Four-panel comic strip is one of a series in which Seminole Sam Fox (the con artist) undertakes to sell the Cincinnati Post Building to Albert Alligator so he can use it to manufacture good weather for the United States. In this strip, the half-blind Mole MacCarony continues to question Pogo Possum about the project, suspicious of undue foreign influence, asking why the weather is to be manufactured in Cincinnati, a city in Greece. When Pogo responds that Cincinnati is not in Greece, the Mole squirts him with his anti-germ spray for rudeness. MacCarony was probably a caricature of Senator Pat McCarran who feared Communism and immigration of non-Europeans in equal parts. Kelly pokes fun at exaggerated patriots like McCarran who fear foreign subversion. |
