Description | Cartoon shows Secretary of State Frank B. Kellogg seated at desk under a hail of brickbats from Capitol Hill. The Kellogg Peace Treaty (also known as the Kellog-Briand Peace Pact) lies on the desk. The pact called on the signatories to renounce war, and it was eventually signed by 64 countries. The pact was wildly popular in the United States and was eventually approved by the Senate 85 to 1, but only after objectors insisted on the inclusion of an accompanying report "interpreting" the pact. |
