Description | Photograph shows Eleanor Pray, Sarah Smith, and several others in a wooded area during an outing described in Eleanor Pray's letter of May 28, 1899: "Last Sunday was such a lovely day that after lunch, Messrs. Bell and [William] Davidson, Ted and I went across the bay [of the Golden Horn] in a sampan, landed above [the restaurant] "Italy" and walked from there into Diomede Bay. It was hot and dusty and we all had too many clothes on, consequently we did not get as much pleasure out of the walk as we might have done. Ted growled the whole way over and back, Mr. Bell perspired, Mr. Davidson ditto. I also was very uncomfortable but as the trip was my idea, I braved it out and so did Mr. Davidson." (Source: B.
