Headnote | Disaster Management Act, 2005: Covid-19 relief – Petitionerhad availed home loan of Rs.37.48 lakhs from ICICI Bank –Aggrieved by Notification dated 27.03.2020 issued by Reserve Bankof India, petitioner filed writ petition for declaring said Notificationas ultra vires to the extent it charged interest on loan amount duringmoratorium period – In writ petition, affidavits were filed on behalfof the Union of India which reflected that Central Government wasfully conscious of the difficulties faced by various sectors and thestakeholders of the different sectors and different measures werealso taken by the Ministry of Finance – One such measure wasOrder dated 23.10.2020 issued by the Ministry of Finance withregard to Covid-19 relief – The object of the said scheme was toprovide ex-gratia payment of difference between compound interestand simple interest by ways of relief for the period from 1st March2020 to 31st August 2020 to borrowers in specified loan accounts– The case of the petitioner, who had taken housing loan was fullycovered by Order dated 23.10.2020 since the benefit was availableto the housing loan upto Rs.2 Crores – Petitioner expressed hissatisfaction on the measures taken by the Central Government – Inview thereof, writ petition disposed of. |

It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
