NDLI is working on a massive scale on development of its advanced features and services, inclusion of huge volume contents of all domains, expansion of user base and providing quality user support. It is therefore looking for large no. of competent professionals. Advertisements are periodically issued for recruitment of Project Staff for the NDLI project on renewable contracts of 1 year. Software Development
  • BE/B. Tech in Computer Science or Information Technology or MCA or M. Sc. (Computer Science) or equivalent in related field
  • Preferably 2 years and above; seniors welcome; for candidates having high academic achievement even 6 months' hands-on experience in software development for a real life project also acceptable
  • Excellent analytical capability
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies:
    1. Java
    2. Web application development using PHP
    3. App development for Android or i-OS
  • Good understanding/exposure to anyone of the following areas desirable:
    1. Modern information retrieval technologies
    2. Machine Learning technologies
    3. Natural language processing
    4. Data analytics
    5. Search engine tuning to optimize search result ranking
    6. System security
    7. System performance tuning
Research & Development
  • Ph. D or M. Tech/MS in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent in related field. Overall at least 5 years' experience since graduation (B. Tech/BE or equivalent) out of which at least 2 years' active research experience in anyone or more of the following areas:
    1. Modern information retrieval technologies
    2. Machine Learning technologies
    3. Natural language processing
    4. Data analytics
    5. Optimization of search result ranking
    6. Personalization of search results
    7. Knowledge representation, semantic web and ontology
  • Research areas are in a digital library parlance in some of the following or related areas:
    1. Query segmentation and annotation
    2. Noisy document processing and curation
    3. Knowledge graph based recommendation
    4. Connecting and augmenting learning resources
    5. Learning analytics
System Administration & Data Center Management
  • BE/B. Tech in Computer Science or Information Technology or MCA or M. Sc. (Computer Science) or equivalent in related field
  • Must have good analytical capability and excellent problem solving aptitude
  • Must be prepared to work hands-on
  • At least 2 years' experience in system & database administration having some of the following skills:
    1. Good knowledge of enterprise operating systems (Unix flavor), applications and network (local area and wide area)
    2. Server Administration
    3. Configuring Switch, Router and Firewall
    4. Network Administration
    5. Troubleshooting hardware, software and network
    6. Storage Administration
    7. Good understanding of system security and state-of-the art IDS
    8. Scripting (C-Shell, Perl)
    9. General understanding of the underlying operating system, storage technologies, memory management, disk arrays, NAS/SAN, networking
    10. General understanding of routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failover of a Database
Metadata Annotation & Curation
  • Masters or equivalent in relevant subject (Library Science, Science, Social science, Culture & Heritage, Engineering, CS/IT, Medical & Health Care, Legal)
  • Excellent analytical skill essential
  • At least 5 years' out of which at least 2 years' experience in Digital Library, preferably in building a multi-disciplinary state-of-the-art digital library with hands-on experience in a digital library project in some of the following areas:
    1. Planning, structuring and operations, coordination of large volume metadata annotation/curation work for a digital library
    2. Leading a team of metadata annotators/curators
    3. Metadata standards and schema formulation for a digital library in any one domain area (Generic and Domain-specific)
    4. Metadata annotation & curation for a digital library in any one domain area
    5. DDC Classification Scheme/Subject Headings/MARC Record
    6. Subject classification of contents as per DDC, LCC, MeSH, etc.
    7. Harvesting Institutional Digital Repository
    8. Familiarity with Linux environment and working knowledge of Linux commands
    9. Good skill in working with MS-Word, Excel and Power Point
    10. Integrated thesaurus handling and use of Ontology tools
    11. Multilingual Document Processing
Social Media
  • Bachelor degree in any discipline. Masters or post graduate diploma in Social Media or Mass Communication or Media or Journalism or Marketing is desirable
  • At least 2 years' experience in relevant areas essential
  • Hands-on industry experience in a few of the following areas:
    1. Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies
    2. Communicating with colleagues and key spokespeople
    3. Liaising with, and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations, often via telephone and email
    4. Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
    5. Collating and analysing media coverage
    6. Writing and editing in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports
    7. Writing media contents such as Google ads, media releases, guest posts, blogs from distributed and diverse information
    8. Social media campaign strategy development
    9. Branding and marketing strategy development
User Communication
  • Bachelor degree in any discipline. English-medium educated will be preferred
  • Must be highly proficient in reading, writing and speaking in English, Hindi and one more Indian language other than Bengali
  • Post graduate diploma in Communication or Journalism or Customer Relation will be an added advantage
  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience in Customer Communication or User Support or Education Service Marketing or equivalent in any one or more of the following areas:
    1. Tele-support (e-mail/telephone/social media) to consumers/users for any type of mass-based product/service, preferably in education domain
    2. Promotion of events, road shows, brands, preferably for education services/products
    3. Marketing campaign among student communities for education services/products
    4. Liaising and counselling students for career development
    5. Public relation activities among student communities
Project Management
  • BE/B. Tech in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology or MCA or M. Sc. (Computer Science) or equivalent in related field; M. Tech or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent analytical capability, dynamic, adaptable to unstructured environment and results oriented
  • Total not less than 10 years' experience (more senior welcome) in managing large IT projects (100+ person-month) – spec-ing, estimation, planning, designing, implementation, testing, deployment and operations
  • Strong software and project management knowledge (PMI)
