Description | The War of the Spanish Succession (1700-1714) began when King Charles of Spain died. He had no direct descendant, so he left the throne to Phillip V, grandson of King Louis XIV of France and the Duke of Anjou. War began as the Great Alliance (a multitude of countries) fought to stop French expansion. The fighting finally stopped in 1713 with the Treaty of Utrecht. Phillip remained king, but he severed all ties to the French throne. This two minute video is an overview of this event. It uses both narration of graphic images. |
